We all wear masks in our lives, don’t we? We all wear masks that help us face the world. Masks allow our real vulnerable selves to hide in their safety as we go about in the world, facing our everyday challenges.
Hasn’t the mask become quite literal today? With the pandemic and our fear of the virus – we seem to really need masks. So much so that, we just need any mask to move around in the world that co-exists with the virus.
Face Masks in the New Normal
Many people felt quite uncomfortable with the idea of having to wear a mask as they moved around in their outer circle. To begin with, everyone was cooped up in the safety of their own homes – due to the virus, lockdowns, laws, fear, and just so much more. Slowly, people got used to that. Would anyone have imagined that something like this would ever happen!
Would you prefer to watch a movie on Netflix than go to a theatre? Stay indoors rather than step out into open public spaces? Or get everything home delivered instead of indulging in some window shopping at the malls? And now, fast forward eight months or more. We’ve had enough! We need human interaction. We need the energy that comes with public spaces. And we need to move about to get back to living a normal life. And this new normal has a new aspect – the Face Mask!
Essential Covid-19 Etiquette
Masks are an integral part of our lives today because:
- It can save us from the SARS-CoV-2 virus
- It can prevent transmission of the virus
- It plays a huge role in breaking the virus chain
- It reduces potential risk from an infected person
Face Masks literally create a barrier between you and virus particles that could be passed on from others. Masks are not just a health precaution during pandemic times, but a lifestyle change too! The Covid-19 Etiquette also seems to be seeping into the sartorial preferences too. We already see how people match their masks with their outfits and are trying out different designs. It’s quite encouraging !
Evolving fashion and styles are a welcoming change; especially when it comes to the various types of face masks. If we need to wear them, then why not wear them in style! However, let’s wear them properly lest there might be no point in doing so.
